PROFESSOR GAVIN E. REID

UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

Gavin E. Reid is the Professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry in the School of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Member of the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute, at The University of Melbourne. Over the past 34 years, he has held a variety of technical research and academic appointments in Australia and the USA, including the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne (1987-1998 and 2002-2004), Purdue University (2000-2002), and Michigan State University (2004-2014).

He received his PhD in Chemistry in 2000 from the University of Melbourne. Research in the Reid laboratory is broadly directed toward the development of fundamental and applied bioanalytical mass spectrometry based strategies for quantitative lipidomics and proteomics, to identify functional biomarkers of disease. Gavin is currently President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry (ANZSMS), and has previously served in several other roles including Secretary (2015 – 2016) and as a Member of the Executive Committee (2014 – 2015).

He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, and is on the Editorial Advisory Boards for the Journal of Lipid Research and the European Journal of Mass Spectrometry. He served from 2012-2014 as Member-at-large for Education on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, and was Treasurer of the Australasian Proteomics Society from 2015-2017.
